Samsung NB30 Netbook (ep.8)
very happy with this netbook
I was a little skeptical about the OS startup, but this laptop has everything I had hoped. I have not upgraded the RAM, so I use it with the original 1 Gb. I wanted a netbook for portability I could do the programming and also use it to Netflix. I am able to use the VGA output to connect to my TV. Just when to switch the display using the function key that the OS startup does not appear on the laptop and external monitor simultaneously. But it shows on TV when turned on. I have a slower connection DSL (usually less than 1 Mbps), but Netflix has worked OK with the wireless network. The TV is small (about 21 “). Netbook I use the headphone jack for audio when watching Netflix, as I’m on my treadmill and it is very noisy. The sound seems very good for me to use earphones.I love the textured case – allows a firm grip and no fingerprints. I have the 6 cell battery makes the netbook thick on the backend, just over an inch. But I think this is a good grip, almost like a sleeve. This netbook is easy enough to pick up with one hand, even on the sides, but I find “handful” of the battery on the rear end makes it easy to slide in and out of a bag.
I am very pleased with the display. I do not care for high-gloss screens. Initially, the small screen seems very limiting when you browse the Internet, as many vertical scrolling is required. Switching to full screen mode and / or use of Firefox with a minimum of tools has helped a little. There is some capacity for additional scrolling with the trackpad, but I have not had the technique down. I usually just use the arrow keys to scroll up and down. The trackpad is smaller than I’m used to and may not be as responsive as my 15 “Dell laptop. I connect an external mouse trackball for longer sessions.
For programming, I loaded two WAMP Server and MS WebMatrix on this point with the OS boot as received, and both are in motion, except that the WebMatrix not seem to have integrated into the engine Jet (MS Access) capability as IIS I am used to. This is a feature of the OS boot, not the netbook hardware.
Minor comment is that the screen does not open 180 degrees. My treadmill has a 2-inch shelf for a book or other reading materials. I had hoped that I could place this netbook on the shelf and open it so that it would flat against the treadmill for viewing. It opens perhaps only 120 to 140 degrees, so it’s not possible. Instead, I need to define the netbook on a larger external hard behind the treadmill.
Overall, I would recommend this netbook if you need a device that is very portable and you want to be able to run full feature programs like Office, etc., in addition to surfing the net.

Excellent battery life
When comparing netbooks in the $ 300 price range, the main difference is the battery life. It has a great range of up to 8 hours. Use on a plane with people with disabilities wireless, screen dimmed to 25% while reading an ebook and listen to music (headphones) you can expect about 7hrs of battery time. Watch videos etc. does it take about 6 hours.On the downside, it is not the thinnest netbook in the market. Light – yes, thin – not really. The general atmosphere is correct, it might be easier to open the lid. The rugged exterior may be large to prevent scratches and fingerprints, but also kind of looks less elegant (which I do not keep too well). I do not really like the touchpad, but it’s not really bad either: The buttons are difficult to locate with your fingers, roll-zone is a little too wide and you can not really feel the end / border the pad.
The screen is very good, the power cable / adapter is not too large. The power button could have been designed a little better, but again – no big deal. His helmet is not as bad as you’d expect from a netbook, but I do not think the competing models are better there.
I did upgrade the netbook with 2GB of DDR2 RAM, which is a great investment you should consider, especially if you take the Windows Starter Edition. You do not lose your warranty if you do. Replacing the hard drive: Do not do it, you lose your warranty and there is no easy way to access the drive (at least I have not seen).
A word about installing Windows Home / Professional / Ultimate:
There was no driver CD / DVD with the netbook. You need to download the drivers from the Samsung page (on this note an important piece of advice: There are two W-Lan Driver NB30 in the series pilot, try the Atheros Wireless driver, but there may be a different material in different Copies of this netbook).
Installation with a USB flash drive: Google for it. You should have 2 GB of RAM. And you should know what you do: Once deleted, I do not know if we would be able to restore Windows Starter Edition (which sucks, but you can work with him with a handful of limitations).

Samsung NB30 Netbook (ep.6)
Impressive value for a solid little netbook!
I got my Samsung NB30-jp02 about a month ago as an alternative to lugging around my MacBook and have tested this time with impressive results. As a student full time I ask a lot of my lappy and this little guy did not disappoint. Structurally, it is extremely light but strong with a good feeling balanced and has all the qualities I have come to expect from all Samsung products I currently own and those I’ve owned in the past. I like the keyboard a good size and seems to take a beating well. Again, full-time student = a lot of typing and multiple windows / programs. Touchpad is responsive and well designed, though small (invest in a wireless mouse) The screen is bright and does well in various lighting conditions due to the matte screen. All I / O ports, USB and DVI solid feel with the sole exception being the input power adapter which, while tight, seems a little vulnerable to a wide-angle and torque could be a problem if the foot on (as with any input) or if subjected to constant tensile (stretched cord, fall, etc.). The breakdown obtained by the battery of high and generous vent ports in the case of Overheating is excellent and is not even a concern (apart from leaving the machine while in a bag / pocket, you should never do anyway). Couple of things to buy people around: spend the $ 25 upgrade 2gig DDR2 RAM (worth it!) And expect to have to eliminate some of the bloat-ware, if you want to run the Windows 7 Starter (suggest Windows XP, but 7 was not as bad as I expected so far). After some software cleaning and reorganization, the machine works great for that to have an Atom processor! You will not be able to view HD videos fine, but you do not have the screen resolution to do it properly anyway. Netflix and YouTube Play as well as most comps with little or stutters distortion. The sound quality is excellent (the speakers are fine for what they are IMO) and I should mention that I also run Fruity Loops (music production software) that is very demanding on the processor with impressive results. Overall, I give it four stars netbook very strong and could easily have been five exception: OS bloat-ware/Windows 7 Starter, low input power supply, and (my biggest complaint, but it is with the software and not the hardware) Windows 7 Starter will not allow you to connect an external monitor. Other than these minor issues, you will not find a better machine for this price! Some notes for buyers: This model does not have a touch screen or a CD / DVD. My advice? BUY IT!
