Samsung NB30 Netbook (ep.8)

very happy with this netbook

I was a little skeptical about the OS startup, but this laptop has everything I had hoped. I have not upgraded the RAM, so I use it with the original 1 Gb. I wanted a netbook for portability I could do the programming and also use it to Netflix. I am able to use the VGA output to connect to my TV. Just when to switch the display using the function key that the OS startup does not appear on the laptop and external monitor simultaneously. But it shows on TV when turned on. I have a slower connection DSL (usually less than 1 Mbps), but Netflix has worked OK with the wireless network. The TV is small (about 21 “). Netbook I use the headphone jack for audio when watching Netflix, as I’m on my treadmill and it is very noisy. The sound seems very good for me to use earphones.
I love the textured case – allows a firm grip and no fingerprints. I have the 6 cell battery makes the netbook thick on the backend, just over an inch. But I think this is a good grip, almost like a sleeve. This netbook is easy enough to pick up with one hand, even on the sides, but I find “handful” of the battery on the rear end makes it easy to slide in and out of a bag.
I am very pleased with the display. I do not care for high-gloss screens. Initially, the small screen seems very limiting when you browse the Internet, as many vertical scrolling is required. Switching to full screen mode and / or use of Firefox with a minimum of tools has helped a little. There is some capacity for additional scrolling with the trackpad, but I have not had the technique down. I usually just use the arrow keys to scroll up and down. The trackpad is smaller than I’m used to and may not be as responsive as my 15 “Dell laptop. I connect an external mouse trackball for longer sessions.
For programming, I loaded two WAMP Server and MS WebMatrix on this point with the OS boot as received, and both are in motion, except that the WebMatrix not seem to have integrated into the engine Jet (MS Access) capability as IIS I am used to. This is a feature of the OS boot, not the netbook hardware.
Minor comment is that the screen does not open 180 degrees. My treadmill has a 2-inch shelf for a book or other reading materials. I had hoped that I could place this netbook on the shelf and open it so that it would flat against the treadmill for viewing. It opens perhaps only 120 to 140 degrees, so it’s not possible. Instead, I need to define the netbook on a larger external hard behind the treadmill.
Overall, I would recommend this netbook if you need a device that is very portable and you want to be able to run full feature programs like Office, etc., in addition to surfing the net.

Samsung NB30 Netbook (ep.7)

Excellent battery life

When comparing netbooks in the $ 300 price range, the main difference is the battery life. It has a great range of up to 8 hours. Use on a plane with people with disabilities wireless, screen dimmed to 25% while reading an ebook and listen to music (headphones) you can expect about 7hrs of battery time. Watch videos etc. does it take about 6 hours.
On the downside, it is not the thinnest netbook in the market. Light – yes, thin – not really. The general atmosphere is correct, it might be easier to open the lid. The rugged exterior may be large to prevent scratches and fingerprints, but also kind of looks less elegant (which I do not keep too well). I do not really like the touchpad, but it’s not really bad either: The buttons are difficult to locate with your fingers, roll-zone is a little too wide and you can not really feel the end / border the pad.
The screen is very good, the power cable / adapter is not too large. The power button could have been designed a little better, but again – no big deal. His helmet is not as bad as you’d expect from a netbook, but I do not think the competing models are better there.
I did upgrade the netbook with 2GB of DDR2 RAM, which is a great investment you should consider, especially if you take the Windows Starter Edition. You do not lose your warranty if you do. Replacing the hard drive: Do not do it, you lose your warranty and there is no easy way to access the drive (at least I have not seen).
A word about installing Windows Home / Professional / Ultimate:
There was no driver CD / DVD with the netbook. You need to download the drivers from the Samsung page (on this note an important piece of advice: There are two W-Lan Driver NB30 in the series pilot, try the Atheros Wireless driver, but there may be a different material in different Copies of this netbook).
Installation with a USB flash drive: Google for it. You should have 2 GB of RAM. And you should know what you do: Once deleted, I do not know if we would be able to restore Windows Starter Edition (which sucks, but you can work with him with a handful of limitations).

Samsung NB30 Netbook (ep.6)

Impressive value for a solid little netbook!

I got my Samsung NB30-jp02 about a month ago as an alternative to lugging around my MacBook and have tested this time with impressive results. As a student full time I ask a lot of my lappy and this little guy did not disappoint. Structurally, it is extremely light but strong with a good feeling balanced and has all the qualities I have come to expect from all Samsung products I currently own and those I’ve owned in the past. I like the keyboard a good size and seems to take a beating well. Again, full-time student = a lot of typing and multiple windows / programs. Touchpad is responsive and well designed, though small (invest in a wireless mouse) The screen is bright and does well in various lighting conditions due to the matte screen. All I / O ports, USB and DVI solid feel with the sole exception being the input power adapter which, while tight, seems a little vulnerable to a wide-angle and torque could be a problem if the foot on (as with any input) or if subjected to constant tensile (stretched cord, fall, etc.). The breakdown obtained by the battery of high and generous vent ports in the case of Overheating is excellent and is not even a concern (apart from leaving the machine while in a bag / pocket, you should never do anyway). Couple of things to buy people around: spend the $ 25 upgrade 2gig DDR2 RAM (worth it!) And expect to have to eliminate some of the bloat-ware, if you want to run the Windows 7 Starter (suggest Windows XP, but 7 was not as bad as I expected so far). After some software cleaning and reorganization, the machine works great for that to have an Atom processor! You will not be able to view HD videos fine, but you do not have the screen resolution to do it properly anyway. Netflix and YouTube Play as well as most comps with little or stutters distortion. The sound quality is excellent (the speakers are fine for what they are IMO) and I should mention that I also run Fruity Loops (music production software) that is very demanding on the processor with impressive results. Overall, I give it four stars netbook very strong and could easily have been five exception: OS bloat-ware/Windows 7 Starter, low input power supply, and (my biggest complaint, but it is with the software and not the hardware) Windows 7 Starter will not allow you to connect an external monitor. Other than these minor issues, you will not find a better machine for this price! Some notes for buyers: This model does not have a touch screen or a CD / DVD. My advice? BUY IT!

Samsung NB30 Netbook (ep.5)

I love this netbook … Worth it for someone who is clumsy!

First I bought a Samsung netbook ivory from the store a year ago. I can not remember the model but something similar to this one. But one day, I spilled a couple of teaspoons of water in it and the key has started malfunctioning. I also did not like the other models because it came with this program was really odd that a nuisance and I think it was called Hyper-thing. (Sorry if some details are fuzzy! Bought it a year ago and only had the other netbooks less than a week.) I quickly turned around and did a little research and I found the Samsung NB30. It is shock resistant up to 30 inches and also water resistant to something like 30cc as long as you wipe the liquid away.
I love it. I got almost a year and it was great. No major problems. And I have no doubt that he fell and man-handled a bit. It is so light and easy to use. One of the things I particularly like this topic comes from having previously owned two laptops and two Dell laptops Acer is the screen and speakers. On my old notebooks that they all had a terrible problem of glare and I hated it. In addition, the newest Dell laptop I owned was the worst speakers. I could barely hear my music playing unless I used a helmet. My speaker phone was louder than the Dell! The NB30 has a great sound quality. And it comes with Windows 7 is wonderful compared to Windows Vista. It also has an SD slot that was useful and three USB ports.
Then one of the drawback is that this model is shock resistant for some reason the battery life is slightly lower than other comparable models from Samsung is 6.5 hours against seven hours. I wish the battery was as long as some Asus models, but the simple design and durability fully compensate for the lack of battery. In addition, the screen is a bit small. Some of my friends mentioned netbook users go for models with larger screens, but I was there for portability and durability. Finally, the streaming video on the NB30 is not great and I blame the Atom processor. (Almost all netbooks have this processor. You can not avoid it.) This processor is not the fastest but it is so light and uses the battery as little as one sacrifices the speed instead. To compensate for this, I upgraded the RAM to 2G. (It is only expandable to 2G. Shame!) Cost maybe $ 50 to upgrade. Prob less now. This helped a little. But the netbook is ideal for simple word processing, surfing the net, and make my presentations slideshow. I like the way the light is so I can easily take the class. It weighs less than most of my books and I often do not need the power cord which is handy because a lot of my three hours of classes are held in rooms without making easily accessible. I also bought an external CD player Samsung so I can use and burn CDs with my netbook. I have not used, but in the future.

Samsung N145 Netbook (ep.8)

Pretty nice little computer!

OK, here goes. First of all, I did not buy this on Amazon. I won a contest. The Samsung JP-02 is a netbook. This is not a laptop or a laptop, and if you expect one, so it’s not for you. To surf the Internet core, email, and watch videos which is very well suited. I do not play games on it but would not expect that it would be powerful enough for most popular. As with any computer, it has its strengths and weaknesses. First, although it will play videos from YouTube, etc. wimp, it is not powerful enough to watch TV shows or movies that are broadcast on the net. Second, it is only 1.6 GH processor, so it will not labor-intensive tasks. Third, it only comes with a 250 GB hard drive. Your best bet would be to use a security program such as Micro Soft Security Essentials, which consumes huge amounts of power even if it is free, it is competent and does the job. I would also not worry about upgrading from Windows 7 Starter to the full blown Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade. Also, an upgrade that I have not but worth it, is upgrade your RAM to 2 GB There is only 1 GB that comes with it. Open the merits of the case and remove the RAM chip. Be careful not to break it. Look below and it will tell you if you want to add DDR2 or DDR3. Get the right ram, and buy it on Amazon. If you buy in stores, it will cost double or triple. In addition, it does not come with a DVD player. I do not have one, but I’m sure it will be fast enough to watch movies from the DVD. Also, save space and remove the bloatware (games and software testing), you do not need.
If you buy a laptop / notebook in this price range, you get nothing more than the same features with a larger, more pixilated screen.
I would venture to say that although I have no children, I think this little netbook would work fine for them.
Pros:
Robust
Nice keyboard
Fast enough
Grand Prize
Nice software
Small
Non-glare screen
Cons:
Too slow for streaming

Samsung N145 Netbook (ep.7)

Happy!!!

Although I have had this netbook for about 3 weeks now, and Ive been very happy with it since I took it out of the box. Build quality is superb and durable. The life of the battery which is very impressive. I can recharge it at night and take it to the office with me and I have enough battery (on setting samsung battery optimized) for me my last full day 8hr, which is really cool, I never had to bring my charger. Speed is not bad either, I havent upgraded to 2gb ram yet, something I will make with the upgrade Windows 7 Home, but for now it’s fine for what I use for. I have an office very well built home to take care of heavy tasks like downloading music, porn, etc lol. The 1GB is doing quite well so far, so everyone elses ignore the comments about it being next to nothing without it. Just remember that it takes a few seconds for it to calculate things (its compact you know) but I would recommend improvements, Windows 7 Starter just sucks ass and you’ll see why … Speaking of compact, that I can take it anywhere without feeling like bags (regular laptop) is impressive. I can tie my internet 3G wireless integrated into the receiver which makes it even better because I can go online with this just about anywhere! The screen is nice, not brilliant which makes for easy viewing in sunlight.
Pros:
Well built
Attractive, the black version is good for the manly man like me.
Almost full-sized keyboard for easy typing.
Excellent portability.
Excellent WiFi.
Fairly quickly with only 1GB.
Very fast to boot from the standby mode (samsung special folder)
Samsung is not a brand from Walmart.
Cons:
Sometimes when I type, I manage to move the cursor to a different place and it pisses me off, idk what im hit, probably the track pad.

Samsung N145 Netbook (ep.6)

Ideal for school work and web browsing

I looked around netbooks some time before settling on the Samsung. It was on sale, so I gave it a shot. I had it for over a month, and I’m still happy with my purchase. I use it mainly for school work (word processing, PowerPoint, etc.) and web browsing.
Because it’s a netbook, the processor will not be as powerful as many desktop computers. It took me a week or two to get used to programs starting slowly, but once they started working.
I am very pleased with the battery life. I usually turn it on for 10 hours and it still has 10% power left on 22 hours. It also accuses fast enough, so I never had to worry about the battery running at me when I’m in the middle of something. It is light, certainly lighter than my school books. I barely noticed when it is in my backpack.
I really like the keyboard on this netbook. I must say that I have small hands, but I find it easy to type. It’s roomy enough that I did not feel cramped, even painful after typing for a while. I rarely press a button that I do not want.
I watch TV online for about an hour or two every day, and the speakers are correct. I had a laptop speakers worst. The sound quality is fine, but the volume is too low. I highly recommend using headphones with this netbook.
I also recommend buying a mouse for use with this netbook. Often, when I scroll using the touchpad, I’ll click on the items that I did not. It can get a little messy and frustrating, but using a mouse clears all of these questions.
PROS:
+ Price, $ 50 cheaper than most other netbooks in the same class
+ Autonomy, with a power of 70% screen, it lasts almost all day
+ Easy to use, spacious keyboard and numerous function keys (volume, standby, etc.)
CONS:
+ Unsightly, but it is not necessarily a problem, many people want to cool laptops like the Apple brand. You will not find that with this Samsung.
+ Trackpad, sometimes indifferent and sometimes too responsive!
Overall I am very pleased with this Samsung. It gets the job done right. The price is reasonable, a good battery life, and is very simple and easy to use. I would recommend this product to other students who bring computers on campus and do not want to worry about finding an outlet!

Samsung N145 Netbook (ep.5)

Very nice, low-cost, works great!

Well, I have too much experience with laptops & netbooks now. But with four children (two junior and two high schools), a partner computer literate, not to mention my computing needs, I need a “no brainer” solution netbook, that so far the Samsung N145-JP02 -was.
In fact, I share a very low end Compaq laptop with my partner (we share it mildly), but she had an accident with an 18-wheeler, a ton of broken bones in his body, including the back and wrist well, a laptop was simply too big, heavy and cumbersome for her to maintain, let alone the balance on his lap and type. So as a gift of recovery, I searched and found this little netbook from Samsung on the “sale” in a big box store. I would say that almost all netbooks have the same characteristics, the variance is the only true hard drive size of! Thus, an Intel Atom processor with 250 GB hard drive, 3 USB ports, a multiformat card reader, serial port, one Ethernet port and a gig of RAM thin.
Pros:
Excellent keyboard! Think about it you use it, the more it’s worth it. High, separated keys.
Glare-free screen outside priceless!
Solid, sturdy construction. Panasonic Toughbook closer to a netbook than any owned or used.
“Fingerprints free” matte exterior.
Racy stripes red pine. (OK, it’s very subjective, but I like it!)
Cons:
1 GB of RAM. I have already upgraded to 2, and with a previous review, will buy an 8 GB SD card for ReadyBoost, which I am using a USB stick for now …
That’s it. It’s fast enough to run multiple applications, the ethernet card is strong (she catches the signal across the country) and after removing bloatware and remove items from the menu is a quick start as well. Lightweight and extremely portable (I noticed that I “borrow” it’s every time she does not use it) I even like the track pad small (adjustable sensitivity), which I used once while typing an e-mail. I will not enter an e-mail on the other netbook in the house for fear of destroying it because of the frustration.
Functional, easy to use the keyboard, backlit screen glare free and robust-what more could you ask for?
